Private Jet Charter Cost Estimator
Estimate your trip in seconds
Data & Prices Updated October 2026 1
How much would it cost to charter a plane for your trip? This private jet charter cost estimator returns the distance, the flight time and a price for the whole aircraft, one-way or round trip, as soon as you enter where you’re flying.
The numbers come from the hourly rates on our aircraft pages and are checked against what other charter brokers publish for the same routes, so they land close to where real quotes usually do. Treat it as a planning tool: the operator confirms the final price before you book.
How the private jet price calculator works
The estimate has four parts.
- The first is the straight-line distance between the two airports.
- The second is flight time: distance divided by a typical speed for the aircraft class, plus half an hour for taxi, climb and approach.
- The third is a typical hourly rate for the class, about $1,800 for a turboprop, $3,200 for a light jet, $4,000 for a midsize jet, $7,000 for a heavy jet and $10,500 for an ultra-long-range jet.
- The fourth is what an hourly rate doesn’t cover: repositioning the aircraft, the crew and airport fees. A round trip is estimated at 1.8 times the one-way price. That last part is why short flights look expensive. A 200-nautical-mile hop from Los Angeles to Las Vegas in a light jet costs around $8,000, although the flying takes under an hour. The aircraft still has to get there and, usually, get back.
Take New York (Teterboro) to Miami (Opa-locka), 949 nautical miles. A turboprop comes to about $11,000 for a flight of 4 hours 10 minutes, a light jet to about $16,600 in 2 hours 45 minutes, a midsize jet to about $20,600 in 2 hours 37 minutes and a heavy jet to about $30,400 in 2 hours 31 minutes.
Faster aircraft cost more per hour but spend less time in the air, which is why the gap between classes is smaller than the hourly rates suggest.
Average private jet charter cost by distance and aircraft size
The average cost to charter a private jet depends mostly on distance and aircraft size. A 250-nautical-mile hop in a light jet costs about $8,600 one-way, a 1,000-nautical-mile flight in a heavy jet about $31,200, and a 3,000-nautical-mile crossing about $47,100 in a midsize jet or $64,000 in a heavy jet. Prices are for the whole aircraft.
| Distance | Turboprop | Light jet | Midsize jet | Heavy jet | Ultra-long-range |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 250 NM | $4,900 | $8,600 | $11,500 | $18,900 | n/a |
| 500 NM | $7,100 | $11,500 | $14,800 | $23,000 | n/a |
| 1,000 NM | $11,500 | $17,200 | $21,200 | $31,200 | n/a |
| 2,000 NM | n/a | n/a | $34,200 | $47,600 | n/a |
| 3,000 NM | n/a | n/a | $47,100 | $64,000 | $90,500 |
| 5,000 NM | n/a | n/a | n/a | n/a | $139,700 |
Rounded to the nearest $100. N/a means the class can’t comfortably fly that distance nonstop: we only list a class when the trip is within 90% of the longest range among the aircraft of that class on this site. For your own route, use the calculator above.
Private jet charter hourly rates by aircraft class
Hourly rates are the starting point for any quote. These are the base rates behind our aircraft pages, with typical seating.
| Aircraft class | Typical seats | Base hourly rate |
|---|---|---|
| Turboprop | 4 to 11 | $1,250 to $2,200 |
| Light jet | 4 to 8 | $1,900 to $4,500 |
| Midsize and super-midsize jet | 7 to 10 | $3,300 to $8,000 |
| Heavy and long-range jet | 10 to 16 | $5,000 to $11,000 |
| Ultra-long-range jet | 13 to 19 | $11,000 to $19,000 |
An hourly rate on its own understates a one-way trip, which also pays for repositioning, crew and fees. Seat counts vary with the cabin layout. A 6 seater charter plane is usually a light jet or a turboprop, and a 10 seater is a midsize or super-midsize jet. A group of 50 doesn’t fit in any business jet: a regional jet seats 30 to 100 and bills about $4,000 to $7,000 an hour, and a narrow-body airliner about $9,000 to $12,000. See airliner and large group charter for those.
Why Choose Us for Private Jet Charter
Every operator in our network holds current FAA Part 135 certification, or the EASA equivalent for European operators, the regulatory standard governing commercial charter operations, crew duty limits, and aircraft maintenance oversight. Combined with ARGUS/Wyvern ratings, this means every aircraft you fly with us has passed both government-mandated safety audits and independent third-party vetting.

Check AvailabilityWhat affects the cost to charter a private jet
- Bigger cabins and longer range cost more per hour. Each model’s rate is on its own page in our aircraft section.
- Longer flights cost more, although fixed costs make short trips expensive per mile.
- A one-way flight often pays for the aircraft to return empty, so a round trip usually costs 1.6 to 1.9 times a one-way flight rather than double.
- Landing, handling and parking fees vary by airport, and some airports need extra permits or customs services.
- Holidays, big events and ski or beach season push prices up, and a last-minute request has fewer aircraft to choose from.
- Catering, ground transport and de-icing are billed on top.
- US domestic charter flights carry a 7.5% federal excise tax, and international flights have their own taxes and fees. The estimate doesn’t itemize them.
Crossing the Atlantic shows how much distance and aircraft size matter. A transatlantic private jet from New York to London costs about $64,000 one-way in a heavy jet and about $90,000 in an ultra-long-range jet.
Ways to lower the cost of a private jet charter
The simplest way to bring the per-person price down is to split the cost of the private jet. One person books the aircraft and the group divides the bill: a turboprop from New York to Nantucket comes to about $4,400 one-way, roughly $730 each for six passengers. Beyond that, be flexible with dates, pick the smallest aircraft that fits your group and route, and check nearby airports, which often have lower fees. Empty legs, flights an operator has to make anyway to reposition an aircraft, can cost noticeably less than a regular charter, although you can’t choose the route or the time. Our charter services pages explain how each kind of trip is booked.
How accurate is this estimate?
Use the number for planning. In October 2026 we calibrated the formula against the guide prices several charter brokers publish for four reference routes, and on those routes it lands within a few percent of the median. Real quotes vary more than that. Brokers’ guide prices for the very same trip often differ by 30% or more, and a final price depends on which aircraft is free, where it is parked and when you fly. The operator or broker confirms it before you book. Our Affiliate Disclosure explains how we earn money from the bookings we send.
Frequently asked questions
How much would it cost to charter a plane?
It depends on distance and aircraft size. A one-way light jet across about 1,000 nautical miles, New York to Miami for example, costs around $17,000. A midsize jet on the same route costs around $21,000 and a heavy jet around $31,000. These are guide prices for the whole aircraft.
What are the hourly rates for a private jet?
Base rates run from about $1,250 an hour for a turboprop to $19,000 for the largest jets. A one-way trip costs more than the hourly rate multiplied by the flight time, because it also covers repositioning the aircraft, the crew and airport fees.
What is the average cost of a private jet charter?
There is no single average, because distance and aircraft size change the price so much. On our estimates, a light jet costs about $8,600 one-way for 250 nautical miles and $17,200 for 1,000 nautical miles, a midsize jet about $21,200 for 1,000 nautical miles, and a heavy jet about $64,000 for a 3,000-nautical-mile Atlantic crossing.
Is a round trip twice the price of a one-way flight?
Usually not. A round trip typically costs about 1.6 to 1.9 times a one-way flight, because the aircraft doesn’t have to reposition on its own. Our calculator uses 1.8.
How much does a small charter plane cost?
A turboprop or light jet seating four to eight people costs about $4,900 to $17,200 one-way for flights of 250 to 1,000 nautical miles. A midsize jet that seats up to ten costs about $11,500 to $21,200 over the same distances.
How can I pay less for a private jet charter?
Split the cost with the people you’re traveling with, be flexible with dates, choose the smallest aircraft that fits your group and route, consider nearby airports, and look at empty legs, which are flights operators make anyway to reposition an aircraft. Empty legs can cost less than a regular charter, but you can’t choose the route or the time.
Does the estimate include airport fees, taxes and catering?
The fixed part of the estimate stands in for repositioning, crew and typical airport fees, but it doesn’t itemize them. Taxes, catering, ground transport, de-icing and customs fees are not broken out, and the estimate can’t predict surcharges for peak dates. The quote you receive will list them.
How much does it cost to charter a plane for 50 people?
A business jet seats 19 at most, so a group of 50 needs a regional jet or an airliner. Regional jets seat 30 to 100 and bill about $4,000 to $7,000 an hour, and narrow-body airliners bill about $9,000 to $12,000 an hour, plus fees.
